Deanston Launches Limited Edition Cask Strength 20 Year Old: Oloroso
Published Date: 2nd December 2015
Deanston has added another unique, hand-crafted single malt to its distinguished Scotch whisky portfolio – Deanston Oloroso 20 Year Old.
This limited edition expression, available from the end of November, has been bottled at cask strength after maturing for 20 years at the Perthshire distillery in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
The taste profile includes hints of Oloroso sherry mixed with warming gingerbread and nutmeg, making it an ideal malt for the festive season. Distinguished by its beautifully balanced sweet and creamy nose and rich, spicy palate, the packaging of this limited bottling embodies Deanston’s traditional look and feel, and is reminiscent of the earthy colours of the Oloroso casks which housed this copper gold malt for two decades.
Alison Gibb, Global Marketing Manager at Burn Stewart Distillers said: “True to the heritage of Deanston Distillery, which is rooted in community values, the Oloroso 20 Year Old has been crafted with the utmost care and dedication.
“The rich, creamy, spicy influences imparted by the wood from the ex-Oloroso sherry casks give this malt a truly special character and we’re excited to announce its release in time for the festive season when it can be enjoyed with friends and family.”
Former cotton mill Deanston Distillery has been producing handcrafted, natural colour Highland single malt whisky on the banks of the River Teith since 1966. The metre-thick stone walls of the distillery’s warehouse help to create the perfect conditions to ensure a smooth, even maturation year round.
Like all of the brand’s malts, Deanston Oloroso 20 Year Old has been crafted without the aid of modern technology, using only the finest Scottish ingredients, including barley grown in the local fields and soft water from the River Teith. The unchill-filtered liquid retains all of its natural flavour and character.
