70cl / 46.00% - A fascinating one from Ardbeg, Heavy Vapours is the Islay distillerys whisky with the gloves taken off. Meaning it was distilled without using Ardbegs purifier. Typically, vapours that rise up the still are captured by this piece of equipment, which sits on the lyne arm of Ardbegs spirit still. It captures heavier compounds and condenses them, causing them to fall back into the still. The vapours fall back into the still, are heated again, and so rise again. This purifying process is said to bring a floral fruitiness that balances the spirits powerful peat, but thats been avoided here to bring a more full-throttle Ardbeg whisky, which was bottled without chill-filtration at 46% ABV."

Tomintoul Distillery Tour
Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House).
