Double Gold for Glengoyne Whisky at the International Wine and Spirit Competition
Published Date: 29th July, 2013
Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is celebrating after being honoured at a top drinks industry competition.
Glengoyne scooped the Gold Award in two categories at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). Its Cask Strength won the prize for ‘Scotch Whisky - Single Malt - Highland - 50% - No Age Stated’ and the 21yo for ‘Scotch Whisky - Single Malt - Highland - 21-22YO’.
Now in its 44th year, the IWSC is the longest running competition of its kind in the world. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world's best wines, spirits and liqueurs, achieved through a rigorous two stage judging process of professional blind tasting and detailed chemical and microbiological analysis.
Commenting on the awards, Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded gold for two of our malts. Glengoyne is a result of time, craft and care and by distilling slower than anyone else in Scotland, we can genuinely claim that Glengoyne is ‘Worth the Wait’.
“The response since the Glengoyne range was enhanced and repackaged last year has been fantastic and for our malts to be recognised by these prestigious awards is a great reward for all our hard work.”
Glengoyne is owned by one of Scotland’s leading, independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. Glengoyne is handcrafted from the finest sherry casks within Glengoyne’s warehouses. Unlike most other single malt whiskies, Glengoyne dries its malted barley using only warm air resulting in an extremely subtle yet complex malt where all the delicate flavours are freely expressed.
The Glengoyne Distillery - highly regarded as Scotland’s most beautiful distillery is situated in Dumgoyne near Loch Lomond. Glengoyne runs it’s stills slower than any other distillery, proof that Glengoyne genuinely is “Worth the Wait”.
