Wemyss Malts and Blends: Wemyss Malts on a Silver Winning Streak!
Published Date: 28th July 2011
Boutique premium whisky and gin company Wemyss Malts has been awarded no less than 4 silver awards in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition, including one silver “best in class” award.
The full silver award tally was:
Peat Chimney 12 years old blended malt: Silver “Best In Class”
Spice King 12 years old blended malt: Silver
Smooth Gentleman 12 years old blended malt: Silver
Darnley’s View London Dry Gin: Silver
The 12 years old blended malt whisky range, which includes Spice King and Peat Chimney, has names inspired by each whisky’s natural flavours and aromas. As with the rest of the Wemyss Malts range, these whiskies have been developed in conjunction with the Scotch expert and writer Charlie Maclean.
The judges’ tasting notes for Peat Chimney begin: “A complex array of smoke and citrus fruits lead the nose and then explode onto the palate in sensational fashion.”
Darnley’s View is a boutique gin in the London Dry style, with an emphasis on juniper, elderflower and citrus as the botanicals. The gin was named after the moment when Mary Queen of Scots first saw her future husband, Lord Darnley through the courtyard window of Wemyss Castle, the historic family seat of the Wemyss family.
William Wemyss, Managing Director of Wemyss Malts, commented “We are delighted to have won these awards. We place a lot of emphasis on product quality at Wemyss and it is very satisfying to have this recognised by the IWSC judges. ”
