Bushmills, County Antrim, 29th February 2024: With immense pride, Bushmills Irish Whiskey has today announced its new 31 Year Old single malt will be made available in Great Britain, launching in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.
The expression is an extremely rare treasure and stands as one of the most limited, small batch single malts ever created at The Old Bushmills Distillery. The unique release is only available in select markets, and within GB, only 12 bottles will be available exclusively through The Whisky Shop.
This 31 Year Old single malt epitomises Bushmills’ dedication to ‘pursuing perfection’ and delighting consumers with prestigious single malts aged in the rarest hand-selected casks from across the world.
The special liquid has been on an extraordinary journey: patiently matured for 13 years in Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels at The Old Bushmills Distillery, before finishing in first and second-fill Madeira casks for an impressive 18 years
The Madeira wine casks were meticulously prepared and hand-built to Bushmills’ exacting standard by Tacopal cooperage in Portugal. Bushmills Master Blender, Alex Thomas comments, “We specify the exact type of Madeira wine we need – one that will perfectly season and complement our aged whiskey. It’s created for us by our long-time partners and collaborators Henriques & Henriques, who have been Madeira makers since 1850.”
Unlike other fortified wines, Madeira is repeatedly heated during production, creating unique and fascinating flavours of deep fruit, roasted nuts and warm honey. Speaking of the experience on the palate, Alex Thomas passionately adds, “this is a truly exceptional single malt. Each sip is like walking through an orchard in summer – warm, mouth-watering with beautiful creamy notes of orange and peach. The finish is dry and fruit-forward, with nutty praline creaminess delivering an exquisite mouthfeel.”
Remarking on the launch, Neil Jamieson, specialist at The Whisky Shop said, “The Whisky Shop is delighted to bring this delicious and rare Bushmills expression to the GB market. With 22 stores nationwide, exclusive products continue to excite and delight our loyal customers and we continue to search for the very finest whiskies available anywhere in the world”.
Bushmills 31 Year Old single malt represents a culmination of sophistication, craftsmanship and four centuries of heritage from The Old Bushmills Distillery, the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery. It is bottled at 46% ABV and priced at £2,200 for 700ml.
