Chivas Brothers creates perfect blend of support as it joins trees4scotland conservation project - 16th June, 2009
Published Date: 16th June 2009
Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard, has teamed up with Trees4Scotland to plant oak trees in their new woodland project in Perthshire, Scotland.
Trees4Scotland is an organisation dedicated to planting new woodlands in Scotland. One of their projects ‘Teaghlach Wood’, which means family or clan wood, is a unique tree initiative near the village of Comrie in Perthshire, where 35 hectares of woodland will be planted. Tree varieties will include oak, birch and ash to help combat climate change and regenerate wildlife habitats.
As an ‘Oak Status’ sponsor, Chivas Brothers will be responsible for planting 100 trees and will be featured as a key participant in the project honour board, which is an on site display of all supporters who plant more than five trees. As wooden casks play a vital part in the maturation process of the company’s extensive range of Scotch whiskies, including the Chivas Regal, Ballantine’s and The Glenlivet, the conservation project is an ideal partnership.
Trees4Scotland work closely with rural land owners and farmers to develop new projects to address climate change and environmental issues.
Gordon Buist, Technical Director of Chivas Brothers comments: “As an environmentally responsible business, with 29 sites in the UK, Chivas Brothers was keen to be part of the project.”
Trees4Scotland founder Angus Crabbie was delighted to welcome Chivas Brothers on board. He said: “It is fantastic to have such an iconic company taking its place on our honours board. That is what Teaghlach Wood is all about - we want it to represent all that is good, green and innovative about Scotland, Scottish business and tourism.”
He added: “Ultimately we would like every visitor to Scotland to do their bit and plant a tree.” Teaghlach Wood will link up with Comrie’s Circular Walk to encourage all keen walkers to visit the project and take in the landscape views.
Strathisla Distillery is the Scottish Highlands’ oldest working distillery. It was restored to its former glory by Chivas Brothers in the 1950s and became known as ‘The spiritual home of Chivas Regal’. Visitors to the distillery can enjoy a unique guided tour of the buildings and witness every stage of the Scotch whisky making process, followed by a tasting of the single malt.
