Douglas Laing Launches Seasonal Limited-Edition Tipples Just In Time For Christmas
Published Date: 25th October 2023
The independent Scotch Whisky business reveals new limited edition festive bottlings, Big Peat Christmas and Scallywag Winter
Ahead of Christmas, Scotland’s leading independent Scotch Whisky business, Douglas Laing, has unveiled two brand new special edition whiskies, Big Peat Christmas and Scallywag Winter. The new seasonal additions join a long line of festive bottlings within the popular Islay and Speyside Scotch Whisky portfolio and are set to be the must-have gifts this year.
The latest malts have been skilfully crafted by the brand’s expert blenders who have brought together a blend of single malt scotch whiskies to deliver winter-warming spices and fruity flavours in the whiskies to create the ultimate winter tipples. Better yet, both new seasonal releases have been bottled without colouring or chill-filtration, enhancing and protecting the subtle flavours created during the distilling process.
The Big Peat Christmas Edition is a festive delight, with the whisky perfectly encapsulating the flavours of the season. This blend of Islay Malt Whiskies is the first Big Peat release to have been finished in sherry casks, giving a full-bodied, warming taste of Christmas with every sip. The limited-edition whisky, bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.8%, has been specially distilled to create a distinctive festive flavour, fusing notes of dried fruit, cocoa, spiced oak, candied peel alongside Hebridean sea air, peated barley and the signature smoke Big Peat is renowned for. The special festive release makes the perfect gift this year, thanks to its luxurious foil gift packaging with Big Peat featured in a classic Christmas scene, adding a star to the top of the tree.
Scallywag’s Winter Edition is bursting with full-bodied flavour making it the ideal dram for the colder months. The launch is the fourth addition to the annual Speyside winter series and has been matured in a 100% sherry cask from the finest Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry butts. The latest release, which has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 52.5%, sees a rich and robust combination of Speyside Single Malts that boast nutty flavours, combined with cocoa and juicy berries. This unique combination delivers Christmas in a glass, with warm gingerbread, spiced oak, and orange rind on the nose and a mouthwatering taste of dates with forest fruits and winter spice on the long finish. Encased in a luxe pearlescent gift tube with Scallywag’s iconic fox terrier set against a backdrop of the Northern Lights, this special edition malt will be at the top of all Christmas lists this year.
Scott Morrison, Brand Manager at Douglas Laing said: “We are always looking to expand our range and provide the perfect gift for whisky lovers at Christmas. Scallywag’s Winter Edition is the ideal winter warmer, with notes of warm gingerbread and spices. The Big Peat Christmas Edition is infamously smoky and has a fitting festive Sherry Cask finish. Both new special festive releases are ideal for gift giving or for pouring a tipple during the cold, wintry nights ahead”.
Big Peat Christmas is available at £60 from Douglas Laing Website and Scallywag Winter Editions is available at £65 from Douglas Laing Website
