Inchdairnie Distillery Heralds In 10th Anniversary By Doubling Capacity With Significant Distillery Expansion

InchDairnie Distillery is beginning its tenth anniversary celebrations early with a major infrastructure investment that will enable it to double its whisky production.

Based in the Kingdom of Fife, the highly innovative distiller’s developments will enable it to increase its capacity from two to four million litres of alcohol per year, and prepare it for switching from natural gas to 100% green hydrogen for distillation.

With the first drop of spirit distilled in 2015, InchDairnie Distillery prepares to mark a decade in the industry next year with the distillery developments including two new additional stills and four on-site warehouses, with land secured for a further fourteen, plus three new washbacks to support our 24/7 production.

Energy efficiency is at the core of the expansion with both Frilli designed stills, one wash and one spirit, complete with energy recovery systems and double condensers like the existing stills.

The expansion includes InchDairnie Distillery preparing for the conversion to green hydrogen from natural gas, set to reduce the carbon footprint of the distillery by an estimated 35%. Achieved through the installation of a new Bosch Hydrogen Ready boiler, it is expected that ScottishPower will begin to supply green hydrogen in 2027.

2025 is set to be a landmark year for InchDairnie Distillery as its reputation for producing flavour-led whisky using cutting-edge technology, continues to grow. On the back of its release last year of the award-winning RyeLaw, further releases are set to follow the debut Scottish Rye whisky next year, the expansion comes as the distiller aims to meet future demand for its sought-after spirit.

Scott Sneddon, Managing Director at InchDairnie Distillery said: “Whisky is a long-term business, and the developments we are announcing today are all part of the meticulous planning and long-term viewpoint that can be seen throughout our business decision-making since our beginning in 2015.

“As we prepare to mark ten years, the doubling of capacity is a bold move, but one that ensures we are set to meet the increased growth in demand for our products that we predict will come as more and more discover our innovative whiskies and full flavours.”

Ian Palmer, Founder and Chairman at InchDairnie Distillery said:“The installation of the new infrastructure at the distillery is testament to the quality of spirit that we are producing here in Fife, and have done for a decade.

“Demand from industry partners for our new-make liquid has been high, and the response we have had to our first release, RyeLaw, unveiled last year has been both satisfying and humbling.”

As part of the expansion, InchDairnie Distillery has worked with a number of esteemed partners including esteemed Italian still maker Frilli, Clyde Associated Engineers, Sinclair Scott, MK Site Services, ARUP and longtime collaborator, Colorado Construction.
